Ingredients
- 3 large ripe tomatoes
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes (mixed colors, optional)
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves
- 250 g (9 oz) fresh mozzarella (preferably bocconcini or ciliegine)
- 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tbsp balsamic glaze
- Sea salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Step 1:
- Slice the large tomatoes into ½ cm (¼ inch) thick rounds.
- Step 2:
- Arrange the slices in a starfish shape on a large serving platter.
- Step 3:
- Halve the cherry tomatoes and scatter them over the tomato base to add color and texture.
- Step 4:
- Drain and slice the mozzarella if using larger balls or leave bocconcini ciliegine whole. Nestle the mozzarella pieces among the tomato slices to highlight the starfish pattern.
- Step 5:
- Tuck fresh basil leaves between the tomato and mozzarella pieces ensuring even distribution and visual appeal.
- Step 6:
- Drizzle olive oil evenly over the salad followed by the balsamic glaze.
- Step 7:
- Sprinkle with sea salt and black pepper to taste.
- Step 8:
- Serve immediately optionally garnished with extra basil or edible flowers.
